The Ogun State Government has commenced a comprehensive rehabilitation of its eight technical colleges, aiming to transform them into top-tier vocational training centers equipped with industry-relevant tools and modern facilities.
According to The PUNCH, this initiative, which seeks to standardize technical and vocational education in the state, is being funded through the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project a World Bank-supported program.
The state government announced this on Monday through the project’s Communication fficer, Mrs. Simbo Olayinka.
During an inspection of ongoing upgrades at the Government Science and Technical College, Ijebu Ode, the state’s Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the OGSTEP Project Steering Committee, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, expressed satisfaction with the quality and speed of the work.
“The government is prioritizing the development of physical infrastructure and human capital across all education sectors,” Okubadejo stated.
“By introducing modern equipment, smart classrooms, and standardized learning environments, we aim to empower students to compete globally while meeting the industrial workforce needs of the state.”
He also highlighted OGSTEP’s broader impact, explaining that the project extends beyond education to support agriculture and the business-enabling environment sectors.
The Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosun Owo-Odusi, emphasized the government’s commitment to upskilling educators and fostering partnerships with local industries.
“Our upgraded facilities will not only benefit students but also serve as a platform for industries to train and upgrade their workforce,” she noted.
Owo-Odusi added that the practical, hands-on experience provided through these partnerships would better prepare students for the demands of the job market.
