A motorcyclist, Ahmed Owolabi, narrowly survived a harrowing attack by his passenger, Sherif Oyeniyi, who slashed his neck with a razor blade while they were in motion in Arepo, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command detailed the incident in a statement released on Saturday by its spokesperson, CPS Omolola Odutola.
According to Odutola, the assault occurred at 4:15 PM near Orange Estate, Arepo.
Owolabi, 27, a resident of Onimane Magada, Ibafo, was quickly rescued and rushed to the hospital after sustaining deep cuts to his neck.
The alarm was raised by Alani Muritala, a resident of Shefu Elede in Ibafo, who reported the incident to authorities.
Muritala informed the police that Owolabi had been attacked by Oyeniyi, who resides at 44 Association Road, Orange Estate, Voera, Arepo.
“Owolabi was conveying Oyeniyi to his destination in Arepo when Oyeniyi suddenly pulled out a razor blade and slashed his neck in two separate locations,” Odutola explained.
Officers from the local police division responded promptly, transporting the injured victim to a nearby hospital and arresting Oyeniyi.
Despite being in custody, Oyeniyi reportedly expressed no remorse for his actions.
During interrogation, he admitted to visiting a voodoo practitioner before carrying out the attack.
When questioned about the possibility of a blood sacrifice or initiation, Oyeniyi attributed his behaviour to “the devil’s handiwork
“The Divisional Crime Branch is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter,” Odutola added. “The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
Owolabi is currently recovering under medical care, while police continue to probe the motive behind the incident.
