Popular On-Air Personality, Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, better known as OAP Dotun, has criticized Soundcity, a leading radio station, for reportedly failing to pay its staff for eight months.
Dotun shared his grievances on social media on Wednesday, sparking widespread reactions.
In his post, he wrote, “It’s not by force to open a radio station. Owing your staff for 8 months is very cruel and inhumane. You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you this. My friends and colleagues at Soundcity, how do you guys cope? No salary for 8 months? Mehn, that’s crazy!”
Dotun’s comments have triggered mixed reactions online, with many social media users expressing disbelief and frustration.
One user, eketohlaptop, questioned, “As a worker, how do you work for 8 months without receiving payment and still continue? Did they tie your life to the job?”
Another commenter, tere_akerele, claimed, “Soundcity is nothing compared to Raypower in this regard.”
Similarly, thefoodnetworknig2 stated, “Can business owners normalize shutting down a failed business rather than making innocent staff suffer?”
Critics also expressed disbelief at the alleged situation. prankhottiee_ asked, “How do you work 1 or 2 months without being paid and still keep going? For what exactly?”
astoldbyjenipha noted, “It’s not only Soundcity ohhhhhhh,” while baddestdjtimmy commented, “No wonder they charge upcoming artists millions, and only those with money get airplay. How can a whole Soundcity owe salaries?”
Echoing the frustration, klinshott added, “You’ll see the owners at events spending lavishly, inviting big celebrities, and paying them huge amounts, but they can’t pay their staff.”
Other reactions highlighted how platforms like YouTube have disrupted traditional media. wotowoto77 remarked, “I even forgot Soundcity still exists. YouTube has really changed a lot of things in the media space.”
