The National Youth Service Corps has announced that married female corps members will no longer be required to change their maiden names to their spouses’ names when seeking redeployment.
This update is outlined in a circular signed by the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Mohammed, which was distributed to directors, acting directors of state and Federal Capital Territory coordinators.
The circular, dated November 25, 2024, is titled “Review of criteria for concessional deployment/relocation for married female corps members” and reveals that the management has approved a revision of the criteria for granting concessional deployment or relocation requests for married female corps members.
The circular states that henceforth, state coordinators should be informed that “Changing a maiden name to that of a spouse is no longer a requirement for the approval of such request by married female corps members.”
While this change has been made, the circular also emphasizes that all other requirements for concessional deployment remain unchanged.
State and FCT coordinators have been instructed to strictly adhere to the new directives, with directors in area offices tasked with ensuring the proper implementation of the updated policy.
