The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended eight individuals for allegedly vandalising public infrastructure across Abuja.
The arrests were part of an ongoing operation by the NSCDC to curb vandalism in the nation’s capital.
According to The PUNCH, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, revealed that the suspects were nabbed through the coordinated efforts of covert operatives and the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Tactical Team.
“We will not allow the efforts of the Honourable Minister of FCT in infrastructural development to be sabotaged by some individuals working against the state. The NSCDC will not relent until acts of vandalism are eradicated in the FCT,” Odumosu warned.
The first group of four suspects—Sani Garba, Umar Aminu, Adekunle Oluwatoyin Eniola, and Emmanuel John—was apprehended on Saturday around 2:10 AM at Idu Layout CITEC with vandalised solar panel poles. The suspects hail from Kano, Osun, and Enugu states.
Another four suspects, identified as Hosea Christopher, Ali Musa, John Sylvester, and Idris Suleiman, were arrested early Sunday morning along the Bannex-Gishiri axis while attempting to transport five vandalised streetlight poles. They are from Kaduna and Katsina states.
Recovered items included five large streetlight poles, a solar panel pole, and over forty iron rods.
Expressing concern about the rising cases of vandalism, Odumosu emphasized the corps’ resolve to safeguard public infrastructure.
“I will continue to warn vandals to leave the FCT because we are not backing down. These suspects are under investigation, and upon completion, they will be charged to court,” he stated.
