The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Gombe State has apprehended 76 individuals on suspicions of planning a same-sex birthday party and marriage.
It was reported that the arrests came after a tip-off about the event.
Commandant Mohammed Muazu, who is in charge of the Gombe State Command of the NSCDC, paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters and expressed the organization’s strong stance against social vices.
Muazu, represented by the Public Relations Officer, SC Buhari Sa’ad, explained that their operatives intervened to prevent the same-sex wedding from taking place.
He explained that in the course of their investigation, they uncovered that out of the 76 suspects, 59 were males, with 21 of them confessing to being homosexuals. Additionally, 17 females were apprehended at the event.
According to Muazu, “They were arrested at Duwa plaza along Bauchi-Gombe expressway, holding a homosexual birthday, and they had plans to hold a same-sex wedding before our men raided the scene. 59 males were arrested, 21 willfully confessed to being homosexuals, and 17 females, being present at the scene, were picked up.”
The commandant expressed concern about the moral decline in society and stated his intention to send the culprits to school to engage them in more constructive activities, emphasizing that they would face legal consequences once the investigation was completed.
He stated, “They will be charged to court to answer for their crime, which is a social vice; a crime in Gombe State.”
