The National Sports Commission has announced the reassignment of 57 Secretary-Generals and other officers to various National Sports Federations, marking a strategic effort to strengthen the sports sector in Nigeria.
The Director of the Federation of Elite Athletes at the NSC, Olumide Bamiduro disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
He emphasized that the reshuffle aligns with the vision of the NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and the Director-General, Bukola Olopade, to revitalize sports in the country.
“This move is part of our mandate to deliver results and reposition the sports sector to attract private and corporate investments,” Bamiduro said. “By doing so, we aim to foster growth within the sports economy and enhance its overall impact.”
The Federation Establishment and Appointment Department has been tasked with implementing the new postings, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to improving the performance of sports federations nationwide.
According to Bamiduro, the reassigned officials are expected to play crucial roles in driving innovation, advancing grassroots and elite sports development, and boosting the economic potential of the sports industry.
“The directive is a significant step towards achieving the NSC’s broader objectives,” he added.
The affected federations include Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing, Cricket, Table Tennis, Volleyball, and Wrestling, among others. These changes, the NSC noted, are designed to ensure the federations are better positioned to fulfill their mandates and contribute to the sector’s progress.
