The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a 32-year-old man, Timileyin Ajayi, for the gruesome murder of his alleged girlfriend, 24-year-old Salome Eleojo Adaidu, who was serving with the National Youth Service Corps in Abuja.
Salome met her tragic end during a visit to Ajayi’s residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Police arrested Ajayi on Sunday, January 12, while he was reportedly trying to dispose of her dismembered body.
Paraded at the state police headquarters in Lafia on Tuesday, Ajayi admitted to the crime, citing jealousy and feelings of betrayal as his motives. Displayed alongside him were a knife and machetes believed to have been used in the act.
In an exclusive interview, Ajayi, who bore injuries from a mob attack before his arrest, said, “I killed her because we couldn’t always be together. I discovered she was cheating through her phone messages with other men. It wasn’t planned, but I acted out of anger.”
When asked if he regretted his actions, Ajayi was unrepentant. “No, I don’t regret it because life is reciprocal. We were compatible, and I think understanding each other is important,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Salome’s family have expressed shock and demanded justice. Her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, denied knowing Ajayi and stated, “We don’t know this so-called Timi. We’d never seen him until we were told he murdered and dismembered our sister. I demand justice.”
Her uncle, Samson Adaji Adaidu, described the horrific scene, saying, “He butchered her into over 50 pieces, packed them in six polythene bags. It seemed like he was preparing her body for consumption. We expect justice from the police.”
The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, assured the public that the case would be prosecuted. “Investigation is ongoing. Once concluded, the suspect will be arraigned in court. We assure the family and public that justice will be served,” he said.
Ajayi, who denied claims of being a gospel singer and identified himself as a cryptocurrency trader, has been remanded in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia pending further investigation.
