The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has dismissed claims that its petrol burns faster than expected, describing the allegations as baseless and misleading.
The company’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, issued a statement on Saturday in response to a viral video in which a content creator compared petrol purchased from an NNPC station with that from a Dangote refinery outlet.
The video claimed that petrol bought from an NNPC filling station lasted only 17 minutes in a generator, while Dangote petrol lasted 33 minutes.
Refuting the claims, NNPCL stated, “The assertion is completely unfounded, based on unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight.”
NNPCL also clarified that the petrol sold at its Lagos stations is largely sourced from the Dangote Refinery. “A significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this misleading video originated—is supplied by Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner committed to local production and energy security,” the company said.
Emphasizing the quality of its products, NNPCL assured consumers that its fuel is formulated for efficiency and environmental sustainability. “Our fuel is carefully blended to ensure optimal performance,” the statement read.
The company condemned the viral video as an attempt to mislead the public and damage its reputation. “This is yet another desperate move by economic saboteurs to spread falsehoods. We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation aimed at undermining our operations,” it warned.
NNPCL further stated that it would take legal action against individuals or groups deliberately spreading false claims about its products and operations. “Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law,” the statement concluded.
