The Federal Government says Nigerians living in Europe can now renew their passports without visiting an embassy, following the launch of the Contactless Passport Renewal System by the Federal Government.
This initiative, which was successfully implemented in Canada, aims to enhance efficiency and accessibility for citizens abroad.
Speaking on the development, Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to digital transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“This innovative system is designed to eliminate the traditional hurdles associated with passport renewals,” Tunji-Ojo said. “Eligible Nigerians in Europe can now complete the renewal process entirely online from the comfort of their homes or offices.”
The digital service is expected to significantly cut down processing times, reduce long wait periods, and eliminate the need for in-person visits.
According to the minister, the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to modernization and efficient service delivery.
“The Nigerian diaspora plays a vital role in our national development, and it is our responsibility to ensure they receive seamless access to essential government services,” he added.
He also assured that while the government is committed to transparency, security remains a top priority in implementing the system.
