The Nigeria Football Federation is set to officially introduce Mr. Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles on Monday.
The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. in the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
This development was confirmed in a statement published on the NFF’s website on Sunday.
Chelle’s appointment, which was finalized last Tuesday by the NFF Executive Committee, followed a recommendation from the Technical and Development Committee.
The 47-year-old Franco-Malian faces the immense responsibility of managing one of the most scrutinized football teams globally.
Despite the challenges, NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, expressed optimism about Chelle’s potential to elevate the Super Eagles’ performance.
“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about football, which is why there have been different reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” Gusau said on Sunday. “However, the NFF appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles.”
He further assured fans of the NFF’s commitment to ensuring Chelle has all the resources needed to thrive. “The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job,” he added.
Chelle’s first major task will involve leading the Super Eagles B squad at the African Nations Championship in East Africa next month.
Following this, the focus will shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with critical fixtures against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) slated for March.
The unveiling will also include the introduction of Chelle’s coaching team, whose expertise will be instrumental in navigating the remaining six matches of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
According to the NFF statement, Chelle boasts extensive experience, having led Mali’s Aiglons close to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.
He recently departed Algerian club MC Oran, where he managed the 1989 African Champions’ Cup finalists, to accept the Super Eagles role.
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba has voiced his support for Chelle’s appointment, encouraging Nigerians to rally behind the coach as he begins his tenure with the national team.
