The National Emergency Management Agency and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency have joined forces to address the aftermath of a dynamite explosion that occurred in the Sabon Pegi area of Mashegu Local Government Area, Niger State.
This was confirmed by NEMA in a press statement issued on Monday.
The explosion took place on Sunday morning, around 7:30 am, and was later verified by the Niger State Police Command.
The authorities confirmed that the blast was triggered by dynamites stored in a residential building.
Spokesperson for the Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, shared that the explosion tragically claimed the life of one Fatima Sadauki and left six others injured.
The injured individuals were promptly transported to General Hospital Kainji, New Bussa, for treatment.
The explosion also caused substantial damage to around 12 houses in the vicinity.
NEMA has been notified and is collaborating with NSEMA to carry out an emergency response to the incident.
“The exploded dynamite was reported to have been kept by a local artisan miner in the wrecked apartment that he had rented for his workers. Some residents of the area were affected by the incident and property was destroyed,” the statement read.
“NEMA Minna Operation Office and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) are working together in response to the incident,” NEMA added.
