The National Examinations Council has blacklisted 14 examination centres in Ogun and Oyo states for their involvement in examination malpractice across nine subjects.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, made this known on Friday at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, during a media briefing where he announced the release of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (External) results.
According to Wushishi, ten of the affected centres are in Ogun State, while four are in Oyo State.
He further revealed that the names of the blacklisted centres, along with the supervisors involved, would be forwarded to other examination bodies for additional sanctions.
“The Federal Ministry of Education has mandated that the names of these centres and supervisors involved in malpractice be sent to sister examination bodies, including JAMB and WAEC,” he stated.
The registrar also disclosed that seven supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to their roles in examination irregularities.
“Two supervisors each from Oyo and Ogun, and one each from Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi, were found guilty of poor supervision, lateness, and aiding and abetting malpractice,” he added.
Regarding the 2024 SSCE (External) results, Wushishi noted that 86,067 candidates registered for the examination, with 84,799 sitting for it.
“A total of 62,929 candidates, representing 75.62 per cent, obtained credit and above in English Language, while 77,988 candidates, or 93.94 per cent, secured five credits and above in Mathematics,” he said.
Furthermore, 57,114 candidates—equivalent to 63.35 per cent—earned five credits, including English and Mathematics, while 70,711 candidates, representing 83.39 per cent, passed five subjects, irrespective of English and Mathematics.
