The Nigerian Defence Academy has urged residents of Afaka, Mando, Kauya, and nearby communities in Kaduna State not to panic as it prepares to conduct an Inter-Battalion Obstacles Crossing Competition for its cadets on Saturday, March 22.
In a statement released on Friday, the Academy’s Public Relations Officer, Major Muhammad Maidawa, assured the public that the event is a routine military exercise designed to enhance cadet training.
“This is to inform the general public, especially residents of Afaka, Mando, Kauya, and adjoining settlements, about an upcoming event of significant importance,” Maidawa said.
According to him, the competition is a combat fitness exercise aimed at testing and improving cadets’ ability to navigate and maneuver through battlefield obstacles. The obstacle course will feature various artificial stations simulating real combat conditions.
“As part of the competition, there will be live firing exercises involving heavy guns and other light weapons,” he added.
Maidawa emphasized that while residents may hear gunfire during the event, there is no cause for concern.
“These activities are a standard part of cadet training, and we want to assure the public that there is no need for alarm,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation for the support of the host communities, urging residents to remain calm and cooperative throughout the exercise.
“We appreciate the continued support of the community and encourage everyone to stay safe and informed,” Maidawa stated.
The NDA’s Inter-Battalion Obstacles Crossing Competition is one of several military training activities aimed at preparing cadets for real-life combat situations.
