The National Broadcasting Commission has reported a total of 262 cases of broadcast violations in Kano State, primarily involving political issues and personality attacks, between January and February 2025.
This was revealed by the NBC’s Kano State Coordinator, Malam Adamu Salihu, during a meeting with media executives.
The gathering was organized by Kano State’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, to address concerns about media ethics.
In a statement released on Friday by the Director of Internal Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Usman Bello, Salihu expressed concern over the increasing frequency of broadcast infractions.
He underscored the urgent need for broadcasters to adopt responsible practices to curb the rising trend.
Commissioner Waiya urged both media organizations and political figures to foster respect and tolerance in their broadcasts, particularly in political programming.
He highlighted the importance of preserving Kano’s long-standing cultural values, emphasizing “decorum, decency, and respect for elders and constituted authority.”
