Alhaji Mohammed Wada-Yahaya, managing director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board, has been suspended as a result of the damage of campaign billboards, according to Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.
The suspension was announced in a letter sent on Friday in Lafia and signed by Muhammed Ubandoma-Aliyu, Secretary to the State Government.
The letter further stated that the MD would be placed on administrative leave without pay until the investigation was finished.
There have been numerous complaints about the indiscriminate destruction of billboards put up by politicians and their supporters in order to solicit votes for the ruling party in the general elections of 2023.
The government said, “The MD of NUDB acted without first seeking permission from a legitimate authority, which shows a lack of consideration for the necessity to hold the elections in a civil environment.”
They also stated that the unjustified destruction of the billboards amounted to incompetence, insubordination, and misconduct.
It further said that the managing director must immediately transfer control of the company’s business to the board member with the most senior position after receiving the letter.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the state administration questioned Wada-Yahaya on Tuesday regarding the allegedly destroyed campaign billboards, “the administration has become aware of the fact that you are demolishing billboards supporting certain political parties and other candidates for office in the upcoming election.”
“As a government appointee, this is least anticipated of you, your action at this time is wrong knowing full well that elections are already near.” the government stated.
