Renowned Nigerian gospel artiste,Yinka Ayefele, has revealed that his children always ask why he is always using a wheelchair.
In a video shared on his Instagram account captioned “They always want me to stand up… And they kept asking me why every day, even up till last night… I tried hard not to be emotional… Indeed, it was ‘My turning point. 12/12/1997’. To God be the Glory,” Ayefele was seen lying on a bed with his kids, engaging in a heart-to-heart discussion
In a widely circulated video, Ayefele’s son, Richard, showed curiosity by directly asking his father about his inability to stand. Ayefele responded, revealing that he was in an accident. Persistent in his curiosity, young Richard sought more details.
The singer explained that it was a car accident that happened on December 12, 1997, during the festive season.
He described how his car somersaulted six times on a slippery road, landing in a deep pit within a bush.
Ayefele recounted being rescued by Good Samaritans who rushed him to the hospital. He also mentioned undergoing further treatment in London for better recovery.
During their conversation, Ayefele noticed his son’s concern and reassured him, expressing confidence in his eventual ability to walk again.
He also shared how his son encouraged him to try standing up from his wheelchair and engage in exercises to aid his recovery.
This accident in 1997 damaged Ayefele’s spinal cord, leading to his confinement to a wheelchair. Despite this, in 2019, Ayefele and his wife, Temitope, welcomed a set of triplets into their family.
