The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Mubarak, who is suspected to be mentally unstable, for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Shamseen Danshehu to death.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Kwangila area of Minna, the state capital.
According to eyewitnesses, Mubarak and Danshehu got into a physical altercation, during which Mubarak reportedly stabbed the victim in the chest.
Danshehu was immediately taken to Minna General Hospital, but doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
While the exact cause of the fight remains unclear, local residents noted that Mubarak was often seen wandering the streets, rummaging through refuse bins in search of discarded items.
When contacted by The PUNCH on Monday, Niger State Police Command spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest.
“It was reported that one Mubarak, who is suspected of insanity and also scavenging around Kwangila, had a fight with a passerby, Shamsu Danshehu, 25 years of the same area.
“During the fight, the said scavenger stabbed Shamsu on the chest with scissors.
“The victim was rushed to the general hospital but gave up the ghost in the hospital and confirmed dead. The suspect was arrested for further investigation,” Abiodun said.
