Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, has officially assumed the role of National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
The event took place at the NURTW’s national headquarters in Abuja, where Akinsanya was formally welcomed into office.
His election to the presidency was achieved through a consensus during the Quadrennial Delegate Conference held at the NURTW Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State.
The election saw the participation of representatives from Southwest states, including Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti, and Ondo, after the presidency was zoned to the region.
The election was peaceful, with the various states rallying behind Akinsanya’s candidacy.
The atmosphere was electric as Akinsanya made his way to the national secretariat, accompanied by a large, enthusiastic crowd of supporters.
His arrival was a grand affair, with union members lining the streets to greet him in celebration. Once at the secretariat, Akinsanya was introduced to members of the National Administrative Council and the Central Working Committee, as part of the formal proceedings.
The swearing-in ceremony followed soon after, led by the union’s Legal Officer, Mercy Ibeh. As part of the official proceedings, Akinsanya took the oath of office as National President.
Alongside him, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede was sworn in as Vice President for the Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun assumed the position of Trustee.
In his inaugural address, Akinsanya expressed profound gratitude to the members of the union and his supporters for their trust and confidence in his leadership.
He took a moment to pledge his commitment to the NURTW constitution, emphasizing his intention to lead with integrity and purpose.
“With the guidance of Allah,” he stated, “I will work towards taking this union to greater heights.” Akinsanya further underscored his focus on fostering unity and peace within the union, vowing to prioritize the welfare of members as one of his key leadership goals.
