Marseille suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat against struggling Reims, paving the way for Paris Saint-Germain to potentially secure their 13th Ligue 1 title on Saturday.
If PSG wins at Saint-Etienne and the late match between Monaco and Nice ends in a draw, the Parisian giants will be crowned champions.
Despite dominating early on, second-placed Marseille found themselves trailing in the 29th minute. Japan international Keito Nakamura skillfully outmaneuvered Leonardo Balerdi inside the box before curling in his ninth league goal of the season.
Marseille’s troubles deepened due to sloppy play in midfield. Reims capitalized on a counterattack, with Nakamura fending off Valentin Rongier before setting up Mamadou Diakhon for a composed left-footed finish.
Valentin Atangana later extended Reims’ lead to three, while Rongier managed to pull one back for the visitors.
Marseille’s inconsistency continues, with this loss marking their fourth in five games.
Midfielder Adrien Rabiot expressed his frustration with his teammates’ performance.
“It’s just not good enough. I get the impression of watching guys who don’t want to play in the Champions League next season,” Rabiot told beIN SPORTS. “If some players don’t want to, then they should say so before the game and just not play.”
Reims’ victory was their first league win since November.
