A 35-year-old man, Felix Vhimga, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Ojowo area of Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.
Sources revealed that Vhimga had gone missing after visiting his brother, Sunday Terkuma Robert, in the area on Monday night.
Robert explained that Vhimga departed around 9 p.m., bidding him farewell before setting off for home. However, Vhimga never reached his destination, sparking concern among family members.
When attempts to reach Vhimga proved unsuccessful the next day, Robert began searching for his brother.
Growing increasingly worried, Robert eventually contacted the police for assistance.
A police insider, who requested anonymity due to a lack of clearance to speak on the matter, recounted, “Sunday Terkuma Robert, brother of the deceased, reported to the police that Felix visited him on November 11 and left around 9 p.m. However, when Felix couldn’t be heard from the next day, Robert searched for him. It was after he could not locate him that he came to the station.”
After an extensive search, Vhimga’s lifeless body was discovered near a stream within the community early in the morning on November 13.
Authorities found the corpse around 7 a.m., with a visible wound on the forehead, close to his left eye. Police officers arrived at the scene, conducted a preliminary examination, and then transported the body to Alayangbe Private Morgue, where an autopsy is expected to provide more insights into the cause of death.
The case has since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ijebu Igbo for a thorough investigation.
“Investigation is ongoing into the incident,” the police source added.
Efforts to reach the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, for official comments were unsuccessful, as calls to her phone went unanswered, and a text message sent to her remained unresponded to at the time of reporting.
In a related development, The PUNCH, previously reported another violent incident that unfolded on Monday in Ogun State.
In the early hours of the day, a three-man armed gang attacked individuals in the parking lot of Diamond Dumplings, located in the GRA area of Abeokuta.
According to a police report, the assailants arrived in an unregistered black Toyota Hilux, targeted a black Mercedes Benz GLE 350 bearing a DLA license plate, and demanded the car keys.
The confrontation tragically led to the death of two people, while two others sustained gunshot wounds.
Odutola, in a statement released later on Monday, confirmed the incident, noting that it took place around 12:30 a.m.
