The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old man, Gbolahan Adebayo, for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, leading to her death in the Ijedodo area of Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State.
According to The PUNCH, the tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday when the victim visited Adebayo at his residence.
A resident of the area, identified simply as Akin, stated that neighbors heard distress cries from the victim around 2 a.m., indicating she was being beaten.
“The screaming lasted on and off for about an hour,” Akin recounted. “Then everything went quiet. It wasn’t until morning that the suspect began shouting for help, and when we checked, we found the girl lying motionless on the bed.”
A police source, speaking anonymously, revealed that the matter was brought to the Isheri-Oshun Police Division by a concerned neighbor on Sunday.
“The neighbor explained that attempts were made to revive the girl, but she eventually succumbed to her injuries before the case was reported to the police,” the source disclosed.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said officers found visible signs of violence on the victim’s body.
“She was taken to a hospital in Ijegun, where doctors confirmed her dead,” Hundeyin stated.
“Detectives visited the scene and the hospital, where the body was examined and photographed before being moved to the IDH morgue in Yaba for an autopsy. The suspect is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing.”
