A 28-year woman identified as Charity Iroakazi, was on Thursday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court by Lagos State Police Command for allegedly having in her possession 36 berets with Indegenious People of Biafra insignia on them.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the defendant, an artisan who was said to reside at 14, Nurudeen St., Ojo, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and unlawful possession of an IPOB berets, against the law.
The prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Mishozunnu, inform the court that the offences were committed on June 16 at Mosalasi Bus Stop, Satellite, Lagos.
The prosecutor disclosed that the police on patrol intercepted a rider carrying a big black nylon in his motorcycle.
He said that the rider was carrying 36 pieces of colour black, green and red berets with IPOB insignia written on it.
The prosecutor said that the rider led the police to the sender address and that led to the defendant’s arrest.
The offences, the prosecutor said contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Folasade Hughes, granted the defendant bail for N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Hughes adjourned the case until Aug. 2 for mention.
