A joint security operation has led to the release of Navy Lieutenant Cynthia Akor and her sister, who were abducted in Mpape, a suburb of Abuja, on Friday night.
According to the Nation, the duo regained freedom around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory following a coordinated effort involving the Guards Brigade, Naval Unit Abuja, FCT Police Command, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The kidnappers had reportedly demanded a ransom of N100 million but received N4 million from the victims’ family between Friday and Saturday night. Meanwhile, security operatives intensified efforts to track down the criminals.
As security forces closed in, the abductors abandoned their captives in Karu and fled, leaving behind cash, personal items, and clothing. Some money was recovered from the scene.
Authorities have since taken into custody individuals believed to have links to the kidnappers.
