Kenyan goalkeeper, Patrick Matasi, has been temporarily banned from all football activities in the country for 90 days as he faces an investigation into alleged match-fixing.
The Football Kenya Federation announced the suspension on Thursday evening, just hours after revealing that it had opened an inquiry into the 37-year-old’s conduct.
The allegations surfaced after a video circulated online, purportedly showing Matasi involved in a discussion about influencing a match’s outcome.
However, the BBC has not been able to authenticate the footage, which has no confirmed date.
Matasi, who represents Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz and has earned over 30 international caps, has yet to respond to multiple requests for comment regarding the accusations.
His club’s owner, Cleophas Shimanyula, stated that the goalkeeper dismissed the allegations upon seeing the video.
“He was shocked at what he was seeing in the video and he told me he doesn’t know about match-fixing,” Shimanyula told BBC Sport Africa.
“Kakamega Homeboyz is against any form of match manipulation.”
Matasi’s last appearance for the Harambee Stars was in October 2023 during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon, where Kenya suffered a 4-1 defeat.
The FKF has pledged to collaborate with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football, and other relevant bodies to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
