The Kebbi State Government has taken a significant step toward improving education by recruiting 2,000 teachers to enhance learning outcomes across the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and Chairperson of the Recruitment Committee, Dr. Halima Muhammad-Bande shared this development during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking at the presentation of appointment letters to the first batch of newly hired teachers on Friday, she provided insights into the recruitment process.
According to Muhammad-Bande, 391 candidates—comprising degree holders, Higher National Diploma graduates, and those with postgraduate qualifications, have been selected in the first phase and will be deployed to post-basic schools.
She further revealed that a second batch of appointments would be announced soon, targeting candidates with the National Certificate in Education.
The commissioner disclosed that the recruitment committee initially received 18,000 applications and screened 4,000 candidates before finalizing selections.
She urged the newly recruited educators to embrace their roles with dedication, emphasizing the crucial impact they can have on the state’s education system.
“A teacher in Kebbi is a king because the governor is a teacher, who knows the value of teaching. Our governor assured all that this is the first batch of teacher-recruitment exercise, others will follow soon,” Muhammad-Bande stated.
Chairman of the Kebbi House Committee on Education, Muhammad Garba-Bena, commended Governor Nasir Idris for his commitment to education, which ensured a smooth recruitment process.
“We are happy that this thing is happening during a time when the teacher is in control. This recruitment exercise will continue until we have enough teachers in our schools. Therefore, I urge those candidates that were not successful during the exercise to be patient,” he said.
Echoing similar sentiments, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abubakar Magaji-Nayilwa, encouraged the newly hired teachers to give their best efforts toward advancing education in the state and beyond.
