The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its steadfast support for Tabital Fulaku International in its efforts to bring unity to the Fulani community and highlight their vital role in Nigeria’s development.
The government also called for an end to the negative portrayals of the Fulani people in some sections of the media.
The PUNCH reported that the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, made these remarks on Friday during a visit from the Kano chapter of Tabital Fulaku International.
He emphasized the government’s dedication to empowering the Fulani community.
In his speech, Gwarzo underscored the significant contributions of the Fulani people to Nigeria, noting their influence across leadership, agriculture, and other essential sectors.
He stated, “The Fulani community has consistently contributed to Nigeria’s development, producing distinguished political leaders, academics, technocrats, legal experts, and security chiefs.”
He further noted, “Remarkably, a Fulani man currently holds the position of National Security Adviser.”
The Deputy Governor expressed concern over the unfair media representation of the Fulani and urged journalists to present a more balanced and accurate portrayal of the community.
“It is disheartening that some sections of the media tarnish their image. The Fulani are herders who sustain our economy and contribute significantly to agriculture. Such negative portrayals are unwarranted,” he added.
Gwarzo also encouraged Fulani community leaders to reach out to government officials of Fulani descent for collaborative support and development opportunities.
He called on the Federal Government and security agencies to address the misrepresentation of the Fulani in the media, which he believes undermines their honorable history and contributions.
“I advise you to collaborate with stakeholders to preserve and enhance the Fulani’s image,” he said, urging Fulbe associations nationwide to unite and protect their rights.
Earlier, the Ardo of Tabital Fulaku International Nigeria, Alhaji Sanusi Abdullahi Nassarawa, explained that the purpose of their visit was to seek government support for the Fulani community and share the association’s ongoing initiatives.
He elaborated on the group’s mission to unite the Fulani people, modernize their trade, educate their youth, and collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
“The Fulani are peaceful and development-oriented people who have contributed immensely to Nigeria’s growth,” Alhaji Sanusi affirmed.
