The Kano State Government has distributed 484 laptops to Primary Healthcare Centres across all wards in the state’s 44 local government areas.
The initiative, part of a broader digitisation effort, was unveiled by Governor Abba Yusuf on Monday during the launch of the 2nd Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Week in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of digital tools in improving healthcare access and efficiency.
“This administration is fully committed to creating a modern healthcare system where technology plays a key role in service delivery. These laptops will help ensure better record-keeping, data management, and overall operational efficiency in our PHCs,” he said.
A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, revealed that the distribution of the laptops is part of a comprehensive plan to upgrade and digitize healthcare facilities in the state.
The statement highlighted the recent renovation of major health institutions, including Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital, Hasiya Bayero Hospital, Nuhu Bamalli Hospital, and the Emergency Unit of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
Additionally, the state government has installed solar power systems at the headquarters of the State Primary Healthcare Management Board and its six zonal offices to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
“With these solar installations, we are addressing the challenge of power outages, ensuring our healthcare workers can operate seamlessly,” the Governor stated.
Governor Yusuf also outlined plans for the 2025 fiscal year, which includes the renovation of hundreds of primary and secondary healthcare facilities.
He described the initiative as part of his administration’s strategy to prioritize health infrastructure and reduce maternal and child mortality rates in Kano.
“Our goal is to provide quality and affordable healthcare services to all residents of Kano State, regardless of their socio-economic status. We will continue to invest in the health sector to ensure a healthier and more productive society,” he added.
