Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has launched an initiative to empower 340 young people who recently completed training at the Livestock and Horticulture Institutes.
As part of the programme, the graduates received bulls, rams, seedlings, and advanced gardening tools to kickstart their ventures.
The governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, revealed this in a statement on Thursday, highlighting that each participant was provided with either two bulls or two rams, as well as three months’ supply of animal feed.
Governor Yusuf explained that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader strategy to tackle poverty and support youth empowerment in Kano State.
“This programme demonstrates our administration’s dedication to empowering the youth and ensuring food security, both of which are vital for the prosperity of our state,” Yusuf stated.
The first cohort of 340 trainees recently concluded their studies at the Livestock and Horticulture Institute in Bagauda, Bebeji Local Government Area, following the facility’s reopening under Yusuf’s leadership.
He also announced that an additional 340 youths had been enrolled for the next training batch.
“The graduates from the Livestock Institute have embarked on a journey that transcends personal development,” the governor said. “They have now become critical stakeholders in the pursuit of food security in Kano State and Nigeria at large. Livestock farming is not only essential for nutritional sustenance but also serves as a cornerstone of economic growth.”
To ensure their continued progress, Yusuf pledged ongoing support, including resources, mentorship, and access to markets.
Addressing the horticulture graduates, the governor underscored their role in the state’s development.
He emphasized the importance of horticulture for sustainability, environmental health, and enhancing the state’s livability.
Yusuf urged the beneficiaries to work together by forming cooperatives and networks, which he said would amplify their collective impact.
Each horticulture graduate received water pumps, sack sprayers, gardening tools, and ₦100,000 in seed capital to help establish their businesses.
