The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as KAI, has apprehended six individuals for illegally hawking sachet alcohol and aphrodisiacs in traffic.
The enforcement operation took place along the Iyana-Isolo-Ilasamaja corridor, where KAI operatives arrested the suspects: Kemi Akeju (36), Bola Oladimeji (49), Monsurat Bakare (40), Tosin Olayiwola (38), Lateefat Bakare (45), and Stella Joseph (41).
Addressing the arrests at the agency’s headquarters in Bolade-Oshodi, KAI Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole, praised the operation and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to eliminate the street sale of alcohol.
‘‘We received reports from motorists about how vendors engaged in the illegal sales of sachet alcohol, liquor and aphrodisiacs keep hawking these drinks in traffic which can contribute to the high rate of accidents via drunk driving and passenger-induced chaos,” Cole stated.
He further highlighted the dangers of drunk driving, citing research that links it to a significant number of road accidents in Lagos and beyond.
The arrested individuals have been charged to court as part of ongoing enforcement measures.
