The Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned an alleged member of a criminal gang identified as Saleem Sanni before a Magistrate’s court in the state for a bloody attack on a Civilians Joint Task Force member in the state.
According to the Guardian, the fleeing suspect was caught in Abuja, and brought back to Kaduna, noting that during the attack at Kinkinu area of Ugwam Muazu, Kaduna town, the victim, Muhammed Saidu, was reportedly dealt machete cuts, and left with serious injury on the left side of his face.
It was learnt that Saidu and other members of the JTF team were on routine patrol of black spots in the area, popularly known as “terrorists’ den”, when the incident occurred.
While recounting how he narrowly escaped death following the attack, Saidu told journalists that the criminal gang inflicted deep injury on his face during patrol duty.
Speaking, in company of his brother and colleagues, the victim explained that they were in a raid to arrest a group of ‘Area Boys’ smoking India hemp in the place, also known as burglary or “Kwauna Uku”, when he was attacked.
He said, “We were on patrol in the evening at about 5:00 p.m. when we met some boys at ‘Kwauna Uku’, in Kinkinnu area of Ungwam Muazu. We tried to arrest them, but they all ran away.
“One of them, Saleem Sani, came back on the same evening with a sharp machete and cut me on my face, and ran away to Abuja, but he was later arrested by JTF, who mobilised members to Abuja, and brought Sani back to Kaduna.”
The JTF Commander, Ungwam Muaza Aminu Soja, confirmed the incident. He said, “The boys attacked people and committed all sorts of crimes against them in the area on a daily basis, day and night.”
The crime suspect was later dragged to the police and charged to court, through Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, after investigation by the Criminal Investigative Department. Kaduna State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, also confirmed the case has been charged to court.
