The Chief Executive Officer of Kaduna Electric has raised concerns over the company’s low revenue generation, describing it as the worst among the country’s 11 electricity distribution companies.
According to The PUNCH, speaking during a Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting organized by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission in Sokoto on Thursday, the CEO, represented by Chief Commercial Officer Ahmed Sanusi, appealed to customers to pay their electricity bills on time to ensure improved power supply.
“We are seeking total collaboration with our customers to enhance electricity distribution in the state. To achieve this, prompt bill payment is essential,” Sanusi stated.
He further urged residents to take responsibility for protecting power infrastructure, particularly transformers, and to verify the identity of individuals attempting to access these installations.
“We have received multiple complaints about individuals posing as our staff to deceive customers and vandalize equipment, causing significant setbacks,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner for Consumer Affairs at NERC, Aisha Mahmud, emphasized the importance of consumer engagement.
Represented by Dr. Babatunde Zubair, she explained that the three-day town hall meeting aimed to gather feedback and educate consumers on their rights.
Similarly, NERC official Pius Bako encouraged Sokoto residents to install meters to ensure accurate billing.
“Currently, about 75 percent of customers in the state do not have meters, which affects transparency in electricity charges,” Bako noted.
