The Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja has ordered the remand of Jude Okoye, the elder brother and former manager of Paul and Peter Okoye (P-Square), over allegations of theft involving $1 million and £34,537.59.
Justice Rahman Oshodi ruled that Okoye be held at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application, which has been scheduled for March 6.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Okoye alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd, on a four-count charge.
According to the prosecution, he allegedly converted $767,544.15—funds paid by Lex Records Ltd for music digital distribution and publishing royalties—for personal use, depriving his brother, Peter Okoye, of his rightful share.
The EFCC claimed the alleged offences occurred between 2016 and 2023. Okoye pleaded not guilty to the charges.
During the court session, EFCC prosecutor Mohammed Bashiru requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in custody.
However, Okoye’s lawyer, Clement Onwuenwunor (SAN), submitted a bail application dated January 27, asking the court to grant his client bail.
Bashiru informed the court that he needed time to respond to the application, prompting Justice Oshodi to adjourn the matter and order Okoye’s remand until the next hearing.
In addition to these charges, Okoye is also facing allegations of money laundering involving N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59 at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
