Council of Chiefs in the Federal Capital Territory, on Thursday lamented the worsening security situation in the nation’s capital, urging the Defence Headquarters to intervene.
The Ona of Abaji, who doubles as the Chairman, FCT Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Adamu Baba, expressed their lamentation on Thursday.
He urged the Defence Headquarters to make Abuja safer by deploying more troops across the territory.
The Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, said in a statement that the royal father made the call during a courtesy call by FCT traditional rulers on the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement said Baba explained that the visit was to appreciate the CDS in particular and the armed forces for their dedication to combating insecurity in the nation and the FCT in particular.
He also expressed worries over the spate of criminality, particularly the ‘one chance’ criminals in Abuja, while calling on the military to help tackle the scourge.
While responding, the CDS expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers for the visit, just as he urged them to sensitise their subjects on the need to support the security agencies with actionable information.
He noted that security is everybody’s business, hence, there is the need for them to sensitise their subjects to “see something and say something” to enable the military to take decisive actions.
Musa also called on the monarchs to take community policing seriously with a view to addressing issues of criminality in the FCT.
