Liverpool have officially confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not be available for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.
However, the club remains optimistic that the defender could still return before the season concludes.
The right-back suffered an injury during Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, further complicating the Reds’ defensive situation ahead of their Wembley showdown.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, head coach Arne Slot provided an update on Alexander-Arnold’s condition.
“Trent is indeed not available. He will not be there at the final.
“But he is still to be assessed for how long it’s going to take, but we do expect him back at the end of the season,” Slot stated.
Meanwhile, there is more optimism regarding Ibrahima Konate’s availability. The French center-back, who was taken off during extra time against PSG, could still play a part in the final.
“We didn’t train yesterday, we were on a day off, and the day before was recovery, so I expect him to train with us today but let’s see how he is,” Slot added.
With both Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley unavailable, Slot hinted at alternative solutions for the right-back position, mentioning Jarell Quansah, Wataru Endo, and Curtis Jones as potential candidates.
Liverpool will be looking to secure their first silverware of the season when they face Newcastle at Wembley on Sunday.
