The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the tragic killing of a young boy by an unidentified Catholic priest after the boy allegedly ignited knockouts within a church compound.
Imo State Police Command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, disclosed this in an interview with Daily Post on Thursday but refrained from revealing the identities of both the priest and the deceased.
According to Okoye, law enforcement has launched an investigation into the case.
“The police have commenced an investigation into the matter. This is all I can say for the moment,” he said.
While details remain unclear, a report shared on Wednesday via the Facebook page For The Love Of Anambra alleged that the priest, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, “picked up a firearm and fatally shot him” after the boy detonated the fireworks.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms as investigations continue.
