Popular social media influencer Okuneye Idris, known as Bobrisky, was reportedly detained by immigration officers late Thursday night while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight.
According to The PUNCH, the incident, which Bobrisky shared with his Instagram followers, appears to have taken a dramatic turn, with allegations of physical harm and involvement by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“Help me, Nigerians,” Bobrisky posted on Instagram. “EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
Bobrisky claimed he sustained injuries in an altercation with the officers. The nature of his detention and subsequent injury remains unclear, but the cross-dresser implicated the EFCC in his arrest, fueling widespread concern and discussion among his supporters.
This development comes after Bobrisky was previously intercepted at the Sème border on October 22 while allegedly trying to leave Nigeria. His troubles date back to April 2024, when the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced him to six months in prison for naira abuse.
While Bobrisky was officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports suggested he spent only three weeks there before being relocated to an undisclosed private location under controversial circumstances.
Allegations soon surfaced that Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to prison officials for special treatment and early release. These claims ignited public outrage and discussions about corruption within the prison system.
The situation grew more complicated in late September, when social media influencer VeryDarkMan released an audio recording supposedly involving Bobrisky.
The recording suggested that Bobrisky had accused renowned music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, of asking him for ₦10 million in exchange for lobbying a presidential pardon during his imprisonment.
Reacting swiftly, the Falanas issued a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, labeling the claims as defamatory and demanding a retraction and public apology.
Bobrisky, however, denied any involvement in the leaked audio, insisting that the statements did not originate from him. “I did not make those claims,” he said, urging the Falanas to hold VeryDarkMan accountable for spreading false information.
The unfolding drama around Bobrisky’s legal challenges and his latest encounter at the airport continues to draw significant attention across the country.
