The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Sunday received 20 medical students who were recently rescued from kidnappers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The students, who are from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were en route to Enugu State for the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students when they were abducted by bandits on August 15, 2024.
The students were safely recovered by security forces on Friday and are now set to be reunited with their families. “It is a relief to have these young individuals back with us, safe and sound,” said IGP Egbetokun during the reception ceremony.
“The police and other security agencies worked tirelessly to ensure their safe return, and we commend everyone involved in this successful operation.”
The rescued students were accompanied to the Force Headquarters by their parents, guardians, a representative of the Benue State Governor, and the Vice Chancellors of both universities.
