Gunmen have fatally shot a middle-aged woman, identified as Theresa Awuhe, in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.
According to The PUNCH, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday night as she was returning from her shop.
Sources reveal that the attack took place near the Villa Suite area, where Awuhe was ambushed by the assailants.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, as nothing was stolen from her, leading to suspicions that the attack may have been targeted.
Residents in the area were left in shock by the incident, with many expressing concerns over the increasing insecurity in Makurdi.
They described Awuhe as a peaceful and hardworking woman, making her untimely death even more tragic for those who knew her.
The Benue State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.
Anene pionted out that the case was reported to the police shortly after the attack.
She assured the public that an investigation into the matter is ongoing, as the police work to uncover the identities of the perpetrators and their motives.
“The case was reported to the police, and the investigation is ongoing,” she stated.
This killing adds to the growing list of violent crimes in Makurdi, prompting calls for increased security measures to protect residents from such senseless acts of violence.
