A security guard has been detained by the Lagos State Police Command following the theft of a vehicle from an estate in the Ago Okota area of Lagos.
The vehicle owner, Dr. Kehinde Fadairo, narrated that he parked his car within the estate premises on Sunday night, only to wake up on Monday morning and discover it missing.
Fadairo said, “I did not go out on Sunday, so I parked the vehicle inside the estate before going to bed. I woke up on Monday to go to work, and I realised that my vehicle was missing.”
Upon discovering the theft, Fadairo reported the incident to the estate chairman and the Chief Security Officer, who summoned the overnight security guard for questioning.
During the inquiry, the guard revealed that he had opened the estate gate for unknown individuals who drove the car out.
Fadairo recounted, “I informed the estate chairman and called the estate CSO, and they came over. We queried the guard on duty how a vehicle could have gone missing when we only had one entrance into the estate but he said he opened the gate for some persons who drove the vehicle because he did not know who was in it. It is surprising how my vehicle was stolen even though I installed some security features, including a steering lock.”
Although the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, had not responded to inquiries as of press time, a senior police officer familiar with the case confirmed the guard’s arrest during a phone conversation.
The officer declined to provide further details, saying, “Yes, it was reported and the guard was arrested.”
This incident comes on the heels of a similar report from November 15, when a 27-year-old private driver, Emmanuel Bright, allegedly stole a Toyota RAV4 SUV (plate number EPE318HB) belonging to his employer, Mrs. Deborah Makinde, at T.A. Gardens in the Warewa area of Ogun State.
The 78-year-old retiree explained that Bright had initially sought permission to wash the car, a request she denied. He later deflated the car’s tyre and asked to pump it, but Makinde again refused.
Despite this, Bright allegedly drove off with the vehicle, even with the supposedly deflated tyre.
