General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has asserted that without divine intervention, the value of $1 could have skyrocketed to ₦10,000 by now.
He attributed Nigeria’s financial struggles to divine intervention, sharing a powerful insight during the Special Holy Ghost Congress held in Abuja.
Speaking to the congregation, Adeboye highlighted the country’s deep-rooted economic challenges, emphasizing the nation’s overreliance on fuel imports despite possessing vast oil resources.
Adeboye explained that billions of dollars have been spent on refurbishing and constructing refineries in Nigeria, yet many of these refineries remain inactive, continuing the nation’s dependence on foreign-sourced petrol.
This, he pointed out, has been a significant factor in the country’s financial instability.
The cleric also addressed the controversial decision by the Nigerian government to eliminate fuel subsidies, a move that has sparked considerable debate.
“We need help, and it’s not human help; it’s divine help,” he said, pointing out the struggle the nation faces as the subsidy removal angered those who were benefitting from the system.
Reflecting on the situation further, Adeboye explained, “Before our current president took office, we were aware that the root of our financial issues lay in the importation of petrol. Despite having oil, we continued to import petrol and waste billions on refineries that did not operate effectively.”
As the naira depreciated rapidly against major currencies, Adeboye shared that he fervently prayed for the country’s financial recovery and was thankful for the collective prayers of others.
“If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth N10,000 by now,” he stated, underscoring the severity of the situation. “This illustrates how much we need prayers.”
His words serve as both a call for national reflection and a reminder of the critical importance of prayer in navigating the economic challenges that Nigeria continues to face.
