Bernd Leno made two crucial saves in the penalty shootout as Fulham edged past Manchester United 4-3, following a 1-1 draw in their FA Cup last-16 clash at Old Trafford
With the match deadlocked at 1-1 after extra time, goalkeeper Bernd Leno emerged as the hero for the visitors, saving crucial spot-kicks from Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee to seal Marco Silva’s side’s progression.
Calvin Bassey had given Fulham the lead just before halftime, rising highest to nod the ball home after Andreas Pereira’s corner was flicked on by Rodrigo Muniz.
However, Manchester United found a response through Bruno Fernandes, who latched onto Diogo Dalot’s cross and buried a stunning first-time effort into the bottom corner.
Both teams pushed for a winner in extra time, with youngster Chido Obi forcing a superb save from Leno, but neither could break the deadlock before the decisive shootout.
