Four people lost their lives on Monday afternoon in a fatal accident on the Sagamu-Benin expressway, according to a statement released by the Federal Road Safety Corps.
According to Tribune, the crash, which occurred around 2:00 PM near the RCC area of Ogbere, involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XA690AKU.
Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer for the FRSC, confirmed that 18 individuals were involved in the crash. Of these, four people, including one man and three women, were killed, while eight others sustained burn injuries and were taken to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for treatment.
The remaining passengers escaped without injury.
“The suspected causes of the crash were fatigue and loss of control,” Okpe explained. She noted that the incident occurred due to the driver losing control of the vehicle, which led to the tragic outcome.
Emergency responders from the FRSC’s Ogbere outpost conducted the rescue operation, transporting the injured to the hospital and the bodies of the deceased to the State Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode.
The FRSC urges drivers to rest adequately before embarking on long trips to avoid fatigue-related accidents.
