A fire broke out on Thursday morning in a seven-storey commercial building located in the Iddo area of Lagos Island.
The blaze, which started at around 10:00 am, originated from an archival room on the first floor of the building, which houses several businesses, including Nigeria Bottling Company PLC.
According to Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was reported at 10:22 am and was promptly attended to by fire stations from Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun.
“The fire, which started in an archival room measuring about 108 square metres, was confined to its origin and successfully extinguished through combined efforts of our teams,” Adeseye stated.
The LSFRS boss confirmed that the fire was caused by rising temperatures in the room. “Preliminary investigations suggest self-ignition due to elevated room temperature, but the situation was swiftly controlled,” she explained.
