The Federal Government will be extending the tenure of the current Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.
According to the Nation, this was disclosed by the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi, after the first Federal Executive Council meeting of 2023, on Wednesday.
He revealed that the police chief who clocks 60 years on March 1, 2023, will not be retiring as mandated by the civil service rule.

The President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), appointed Baba as the acting Inspector General of Police on April 6, 2021.
His appointment was later confirmed by the Police Council as the substantive Inspector General of Police on June 2021.
