Manchester City once again had to dig deep in the FA Cup, overcoming a spirited challenge from second-tier Plymouth Argyle with a 3-1 victory to book their place in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
For the second successive round, City found themselves trailing against lower-league opposition.
Maksym Talovierov stunned the home crowd by nodding Plymouth into an unexpected lead, sending the traveling fans into rapturous celebration.
However, teenage sensation Nico O’Reilly rose to the occasion, scoring two crucial headers to turn the tide in City’s favour.
O’Reilly’s first came just before the halftime whistle, connecting with a pinpoint Kevin de Bruyne cross to restore parity.
After the break, City mounted relentless pressure, and their persistence paid off when O’Reilly struck again in the 76th minute, meeting Phil Foden’s corner to put the hosts ahead.
De Bruyne then put the game beyond doubt in the dying moments, tapping in to seal City’s comeback and ensure their FA Cup journey continued.
It was another hard-fought victory for Pep Guardiola’s side, who also had to come from behind to edge past Leyton Orient in the previous round.
