PSV endured another frustrating outing on the road in the Eredivisie, drawing 3-3 against NEC Nijmegen on Saturday.
This marks their third consecutive away game without a win, following defeats to SC Heerenveen (1-0) and PEC Zwolle (3-1).
Despite leading 3-1 late in the match, a costly error from Ryan Flamingo allowed NEC to mount a comeback. Kento Shiogai capitalized on the mistake in the 90th minute before Bryan Linssen dramatically equalized in stoppage time.
Even with the setback, PSV remains at the top of the table, holding a five-point lead over Ajax.
However, they have played two fewer matches, including a crucial fixture against Feyenoord in the upcoming Klassieker.
PSV suffered a setback even before kickoff, as Olivier Boscagli was ruled out due to a muscle injury sustained in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool.
The French defender joins Malik Tillman and Ricardo Pepi on the injury list, forcing manager Peter Bosz to reshuffle his defense by pairing Armando Obispo with Flamingo at center-back.
NEC began the game with confidence, sensing an opportunity against the league leaders. Vito van Crooij and Sami Ouaissa both tested Walter Benitez from distance, while Sontje Hansen squandered a golden chance by shooting wide from close range.
PSV weathered the early pressure and created their first real threat midway through the opening half when Ismael Saibari curled a shot narrowly wide.
Luuk de Jong also came close, but his effort failed to hit the target. Shortly before halftime, Benitez produced a brilliant save to deny Calvin Verdonk.
After the break, PSV took control. De Jong broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with a powerful finish into the roof of the net.
However, NEC responded in the 66th minute when Ouaissa found the net from a free-kick situation, leveling the score at 1-1.
Mauro Junior played a key role in PSV’s resurgence, providing assists for Saibari and Johan Bakayoko, putting the visitors ahead 3-1 by the 76th minute.
Just when it seemed PSV had secured the victory, disaster struck. Flamingo’s misplaced back pass gifted Shiogai a goal in the final minute of regular time.
NEC kept pushing and, deep into stoppage time, Linssen rose to head home from a corner, securing a dramatic point for the hosts.
