Danny Welbeck wasted no time making his mark, coming off the bench to net the decisive goal in Brighton and Hove Albion’s 2-1 Premier League triumph over Bournemouth on Tuesday.
After suffering a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in early February, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has seen a remarkable turnaround from his team.
Since that setback, the Seagulls have bounced back impressively, securing crucial victories over Chelsea in both the Premier League and FA Cup, as well as wins against Southampton and Bournemouth.
Their resurgence has put them firmly back in contention for European football next season.
Against Bournemouth, Brighton had to dig deep to claim all three points. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen played a key role, making crucial saves to keep the Cherries at bay.
The hosts had their moments, especially when Justin Kluivert’s stunning strike canceled out Joao Pedro’s early penalty.
However, Bournemouth couldn’t capitalize on their chances to complete the comeback.
In the end, it was Danny Welbeck who proved to be the difference-maker. The experienced forward made an immediate impact, scoring just three minutes after replacing Pedro.
His well-taken shot, which clipped the inside of the far post before beating Kepa Arrizabalaga, sealed the victory for Brighton.
Welbeck’s goal takes his Premier League tally for the club to 30, putting him level with Pascal Gross as Brighton’s joint-top scorer in the top flight.
