Newcastle United forward Jacob Murphy shone with a goal in each half as his side cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over Leicester City in their Premier League clash at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The Foxes crumbled defensively, particularly in the second half, allowing the Magpies to secure a convincing win.
In front of a lively crowd of 52,235 fans, Newcastle delivered a thrilling display of attacking football.
The victory lifted them to 11th place on the table with 23 points, while Leicester’s struggles continued, leaving them in 16th with just 14 points.
The home side set the tone early, dominating possession and keeping Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen busy.
It took a well-orchestrated set piece to break the deadlock, with Anthony Gordon cleverly setting up Murphy from a short corner. Murphy’s precise strike from the edge of the box put Newcastle ahead.
Hermansen was substituted for Danny Ward at halftime, a change that seemed to unravel Leicester’s defense.
Newcastle doubled their lead shortly after the restart through another meticulously planned set piece. Lewis Hall headed the ball back across the goal, allowing Bruno Guimarães to nod it past Ward.
The third goal followed quickly as Conor Coady’s attempted clearance deflected Hall’s cross into Alexander Isak’s path. The Swedish striker calmly headed home to extend the lead.
Murphy, who missed a golden opportunity in the 52nd minute after a brilliant pass from Isak, made amends on the hour mark. This time, Isak found him on the right, and Murphy slotted the ball through Ward’s legs to complete the scoring.
Newcastle maintained their relentless attacking intensity, racking up 27 shots, 11 of which were on target. Though they failed to add to their tally, their dominance was undeniable.
Leicester, in contrast, managed only four shots, with a single effort testing Magpies goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka in an otherwise dismal performance.
