Brentford staged a dramatic comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, extending their remarkable run of away form in the Premier League.
The Cherries took the lead in the first half when Milos Kerkez’s dangerous cross was inadvertently turned into the net by Vitaly Janelt.
However, Thomas Frank’s side responded with resilience, ensuring their unbeaten streak against Bournemouth in the top flight continued.
Yoane Wissa brought the visitors level with a well-placed header, capitalizing on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s misjudgment from Bryan Mbeumo’s inswinging corner.
Brentford then completed the turnaround in the 71st minute when Kevin Schade’s long throw found Christian Norgaard, who made no mistake in slotting home the decisive goal.
Bournemouth had opportunities to regain the lead, with Antoine Semenyo striking the crossbar early in the second half. David Brooks also squandered a golden chance in the closing stages, directing his effort straight at Mark Flekken.
The hosts’ struggles at home continued, marking their third successive Premier League defeat at the Vitality— a feat they last endured in December 2019, during their relegation campaign.
For Brentford, this win was historic as it marked their 50th Premier League victory, making them the fastest team to reach this milestone since 1995.
Their incredible away form also saw them claim five consecutive league wins on the road for the first time since 2010, when they competed in the third tier.
Mbeumo and Wissa played vital roles in the comeback, adding to their impressive individual tallies. Mbeumo has now been directly involved in 20 Premier League goals this season (15 goals, five assists), becoming only the second Brentford player to hit this mark in a single campaign, following in the footsteps of Ivan Toney, who recorded 24 goal involvements (20 goals, four assists) in 2022-23.
Wissa, meanwhile, has delivered his most productive season in the top flight, contributing 16 goal involvements (14 goals, two assists).
Bournemouth, who had been in contention for a Champions League spot earlier in the year, now find themselves in ninth place.
Depending on the result of Chelsea’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday, they could fall eight points adrift of the top four. Their struggles against Brentford persist, having failed to beat the Bees in the league since August 2014.
